Johnson, PT, DPT, DEd, MSS, MBA, LMT – Dr. Johnson graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy and a Master of Science degree in orthopedic physical therapy.  He has earned doctoral degrees in Physical Therapy from Slippery Rock University and in Adult Education from The Pennsylvania State University.  He has also completed a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the United States Army War College, a Master of Business Administration degree from Waynesburg University, a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Health Science from George Washington University and a Massage Therapy Certificate from the Community College of Allegheny County/Boyce Campus.

 

Dr. Johnson is a highly accomplished physical therapist, educator and veteran.  He is a tenured professor at the Community College of Allegheny County/Boyce Campus Physical Therapist Assistant Program.  Dr. Johnson was the 2017 recipient of the Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association Service Award.  He received the League for Innovation in the Community College Innovation of the Year 2010-2011 and the Community College of Allegheny County 2010 President’s Innovation Award.  He is the recipient of the 2007 F. A. Davis Award for Outstanding Physical Therapist Assistant Educator and the 2003 National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award for Teaching and Leadership Excellence.  In June 2009, he was appointed by the Governor to serve as a member on the Pennsylvania State Board of Physical Therapy for a four year term and was reappointed to serve a second term in 2013-2017 where he served as the Board Chair and Vice Chair.  In January 2019, he was appointed to the Highmark Medical Review Committee for a two-year term.

 

He retired from the United States Navy at the rank of Captain with 40 years of service in December 2015.  He served as Commanding Officer of Naval Reserve National Naval Medical Center Bethesda Operational Health Support Unit from September 2007 – November 2009 and the Executive Officer from January 2006 – August 2007.  In March 2003, during Operations Nobel Eagle and Enduring Freedom he was recalled to serve on the physical therapy staff at Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, VA.  He served a three year (2003-2006) appointment as Specialty Leader to the U.S. Navy Surgeon General for Healthcare Providers.  He is a peer reviewer for Military Medicine for the fields of physical medicine, physical therapy, massage therapy and adult education.

 

Dr. Johnson is active in community service.  He is a member of the Churchill Wilkins Rotary Club where he coordinates the annual Help Give Thanks Thanksgiving meal project supporting the Rainbow Kitchen in Homestead, PA.  He has received the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition.  Additionally, he served on the PA Congressional District 18 Naval Academy Candidate Review Board from 2010-2016.  In February 2017, Dr. Johnson was elected to the Community College of Allegheny County Educational Foundation Board of Directors for a three year term.
